Flexstep Lift Installation, Northern Quarter's Bar Kitchen

Axess 2 install a new Flexstep lift at Tariff & Dale, the corner bar and kitchen, at 2 Tariff Street. The former cotton spinners and warehouse, now houses a 72-seater restaurant and an open kitchen run by Stockport born head chef Chris Vernazza. The upstairs bar has a capacity of over 200, and is focused on craft beers, high end spirits, and cocktails. Quirky features include beer flight boards, stocked with three one-third glasses of draught beers – which you might like to enjoy in the lift shaft booth, a six seater cubby with a very high ceiling!

The new 4000 sq ft venue sits splendidly white at no.2 Tariff Street, which, most interestingly, isn’t even an address, or wasn’t until the bar established itself.

Axess 2 was approached by the contractor Astill Associates to provide a wheelchair access solution from the main entrance off Dale St to the main bar area. The wheelchair lift needed to be functional but also complement the existing surrounding scattered with original artefacts.

The FlexStep was selected as the perfect solution to overcome the change in level from the entrance to the bar area. This 2-in-1 product combines a staircase and a lifting platform, all controlled remotely by a compact handset. The lift remains in stair mode until the platform mode is activated when the stairs treads lower to form a 900x1250mm platform, which then travels vertically up 585mm to the higher floor.

This was truly a bespoke lift solution, complete with customised colours and finishes, all designed and specified by the client. The lift is constantly in use and has proved to be a real asset to this recently renovated building!
